"The flooded caves in the Yucatan peninsula hold and protect in their interior invaluable archaeological and paleontological materials," says Broen. "I’ve tried to photograph some of their secrets for the past seven years. This photo captures the visceral feeling of seeing Mayan remains, while raising awareness for the need of protecting these spaces."
